Barbara Shrader, age 61, of Taylor, passed away Thursday evening under the care of Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore. She is survived by her beloved husband, Randy Shrader. Wed on June 2, 1973, the couple were married for 42 years.
Born in Moosic on April 22, 1954, Barbara was the daughter of the late Clarence “Bubbie”, Sr., and Bessie Decker Hughes. After attending Riverside High School, she worked as a cigar maker for Parodi Cigar for over 30 years.
She enjoyed reading, listening to music, but above all, spending time with her adoring grandchildren. After courageously battling cancer for more than two years, she passed away Thursday surrounded by her loving family. Now at peace, she’ll be forever missed.
She is also survived by her daughters, Brandi Luckasavage and husband James and Lisa Descoteaux, all of Taylor; her siblings, Clarence Hughes, Jr., and wife Sandra of Hughestown, Willard hughes and Louis Hughes and wife Beverly, all of Moosic, Thomas Hughes and wife Leslie of Pittston, Dorothy Marianelli and husband Robert of Old Forge, Debra Hughes of Wilkes Barre and Donna Maul of Scranton, Jackie Grugnale and husband Michael of Moosic; two grandchildren, Destiny and Jared; and many nieces and nephews.
A granddaughter, Bella Luckasavage; and siblings, Ronald Hughes, Marion Nalaschi, Joan Kemler, Louise Killino and Cathy Fritz also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank Barbara’s co-workers; her sister, Jackie; the Shrader family; Sacred Heart Hospice staff, including Barb, Tara, Jen and Lisa; Moses Taylor Hospital Oncology staff, including Trudy, Sue and Karen; Drs. Kenneth Sebastianelli and Veerabhadrappa Kishori; and NROC, including Nadine, for their collective compassion and care throughout Barbara’s illness.
Funeral services by Rev. Paul Fields are scheduled for Monday at 7:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 4:00PM until services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart’s Memorial Fund, 600 Baltimore Drive, # 7, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18702.
