Elizabeth (Betty) Jones, age 83, of Duryea, passed away Thursday morning at Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit at the Geisinger South Medical Center in Wilkes Barre. She was preceded in death on December 9th, 1966, by her husband, George Jones, Jr.
Born in Pittston on May 31, 1932, daughter of the late William and Dorothy King Morgan, Betty attended Pittston Area Schools. A former member of St. Mary’s Assumption Church in Pittston, she was a current member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea. She worked at Pittston Apparel before raising her family.
She enjoyed playing bingo, adored Betty Boop, and had a memorable sense of humor. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and dear friend. Passing away peacefully on Thursday, she will be forever missed..
She is survived by her daughters, Alice Haduck and husband John of Duryea, Valerie Watson and husband Joseph of Dickson City; her sons, George Jones, III, and wife Annette of Duryea, David Jones and wife Lorraine of Duryea, Robert Jones and wife Barbara of Exeter; her best friend who she considered a sister, Candy Grey of Harvey’s Lake; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Martini Jones of Avoca.
Also preceding her in death was her beloved son, William (Billy) Jones, on July 30, 2015; her beloved companion, Richard (Dick) Fletcher; and her sister, Margaret Speck.
Her family would like to collectively thank the amazing staffs of Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South, and Highland Manor, who’ve helped to make a difficult time more tolerable. Their care will always be appreciated.
Blessing Services, to be conducted by Rev. John Polednak, Nativity of Our Lord Parish Pastor, are scheduled for Monday at noon in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 10-12PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to the American Cancer Society, 712 South Keyser Ave., Taylor, Pa., 18517.
