William J. Mullen, Jr., age 92, of Old Forge, passed away Monday at Scranton Health Care Center. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, the former Lee Ferentino.
Born on January 26, 1923, son of the late William, Sr., and Margaret Mullen, William was a graduate of the former Saint Ann’s High School, West Scranton, before serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII, earning the American Area, WWII Victory, and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medals for his honorable service from 1942-1946. Prior to his retirement, he worked many years for PPL Electric Utilies.
He is survived by his brother, Joseph Mullen of Scranton; and cousins, including Eileen Christian of Glenburn Twp.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret McDonnell; and two infant siblings.
His family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Minora; Angels Touch home Health Care; Scranton Health Care Center; and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the exceptional care given to William throughout his illness.
Blessing services by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor of Prince of Peace Parish, are scheduled for Tuesday, January 5th, at 1:00PM in the Old Forge Cemetery Chapel. AMVETS Honor Guard will provide Veteran’s honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William’s name to St. Ann’s Monastery and Shrine Basilica, 1233 St. Ann Street, Scranton, Pa., 18504.
