Mary S. Adamiak, age 87, a resident of Old Forge Manor, passed away Sunday evening at Scranton Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Adamiak, on January 8, 1992.
Born in Taylor on May 18, 1928, daughter of the late John and Anna Elechko Sluk, Mary was a graduate of the former Taylor High School, Class of 1946. A former member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge, upon its closure she became a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Scranton. Mary loved travelling over the years with Walter. Prior to her retirement, she worked in retails sales for Salben’s Store in Scranton for over thirty years. She loved her job, taking great pride in her work. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sister, Margaret Husosky and husband Stephen of Old Forge; eight nieces and nephews, Ann Helene Rusnak Kufta and husband Gerald, Lisa Sluk Davis and husband Paul, Ann Marie Sluk Hoban and husband Jeff, John Husosky and wife Lisa, Maggie Husosky Koehler and husband Peter, Andrew Rusnak and wife Gail, Tamara Sluk Weber and husband John, and Kim Adamiak; and many great nieces and great nephews.
A sister, Anna Sluk Rusnak, and brothers, an infant Michael, John and Peter Sluk, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to thank the entire staffs of Old Forge Manor; Scranton Health Care Center; and Personal Home Health Care (PHHC), especially nurse Cindy, for the tremendous care given to Mary throughout the year. They will be forever grateful.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge to begin with a 10:15AM prayer service by Rev. Francis Pauselli. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street in the Minooka section of Scranton, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 9:00AM until services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, Pa., 18505.
