Barbara Sylvester, age 69, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Sunday after an illness. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Sylvester. The couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on September 12th.
Born on December 26th, 1945, daughter of the late Edward and Helen Parks Casey, Barbara was a graduate of the former St. Paul’s High School in Green Ridge. Upon raising her family, she worked as a Paraprofessional for the Scranton School District, prior to her retirement. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a devoted member of SS Peter and Paul Church in West Scranton. A faithful patron of St. Anne, she regularly attended the St. Ann Basilica Novena.
She enjoyed reading, traveling and going to dinner. An animal lover, she adored her Yorkies, “Sammy” and “Daisy.” A loving wife, mother, sister, relative and friend, she will be dearly missed.
She is also survived by her two children, Joseph and Barbara Joann Sylvester; and her brother, Robert Casey and wife Maryanne, all of Scranton.
Her family wishes to thank all extended family and friends for the amazing love shown toward them during this difficult time.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Thursday at 8;45AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at SS Peter and Paul Church, 1309 W. Locust Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Sam J. Ferretti, Pastor. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., Pa., 18411.
