Kurt L. Arens, age 69, of Scranton, died Sunday morning at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret (Peggy) Hughes Arens, on January 18, 2011.
Born on March 7, 1946, son of the late Kurt and Mary Levandowski Arens, Kurt was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War before serving in the Marine Corps. Reserves. An avid bowler, he had played in numerous local leagues, and he was tremendous fan of both the New York Giants and Yankees. He had volunteered for years for both Telespond Senior Services and Tiny Tots. Passing away unexpectedly, he will be dearly missed by his family.
He is survived by his sons, James Arens and wife Billie Jo of Wilkes Barre and Kurt Arens, Jr., and wife Christine of Pittston; a brother, Michael Arens of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Ida Chludzinski of Taylor, Joanne Barber and husband Jeff of Scranton and Carol Votano and husband Rocky of Old Forge; six grandchildren; a great granddaughter, Audrianna; and nieces and nephews. A brother, Walter Arens, Sr., preceded him in death.
Private arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kurt’s name to Telespond Senior Services, 1200 Saginaw St. #1, Scranton, 18505.
