James P. McDonnell, Jr., age 72, of Falls Church, Virginia, died Thursday while visiting his sister in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Born in Scranton on April 30, 1943, son of the late Major James P. McDonnell, Sr., and Catherine Davis McDonnell, James was a graduate of Scranton Central High School where he excelled in sports before earning a B.S. in Physics from the University of Scranton. Until his recent retirement, he worked as a Senior Telecom Analyst for Invoice Insight of Manassas, Virginia. An avid skier and tennis player, he adored his niece, two great nieces and great nephew. Passing away unexpectedly, he will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his loving sister, Karen Loud and husband Atty. George of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; his niece, Kelly Cleary and husband Andrew of Washington D.C.; two great nieces and a great nephew, Maggie, Georgia and Colin Cleary; and several cousins.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 10:00AM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Interment will follow in Washburn Street Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 5-7:00PM at the funeral home.
