Agnes H. Salerno Pace, L.P.N., age 83, of Old Forge, passed away Tuesday afternoon at home, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vincent Salerno, Sr., on July 31, 1979, and her second husband, Joseph Pace, on May 1, 2014.
Born in the Rendham section of Taylor on January 21, 1932 and daughter of the late Charles and Helen Rafferty Kalson, Agnes was a graduate of the former Taylor High School. While working at Sweetheart Candy Co., she met her husband Vincent. After raising her family and upon Vincent’s passing, she earned her Nursing Degree from Mercedian School of Practical Nursing. She would go on to work as an L.P.N. for Moses Taylor Hospital, prior to her retirement.
Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a lifelong member of the Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge and a member of the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. She treasured her card club friends of 50 years, and enjoyed attending the Taylor Senior Citizens functions. Her family meant the world to her, and her greatest joy came while spending time with all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Passing away peacefully surrounded by her family, she will be forever missed.
She is survived by seven children, Amy Lawless and husband Paul, with whom Agnes resided, Vincent Salerno and wife Angel of Old Forge, Daniel Salerno and wife Wendy of Taylor, Kevin Salerno of Scranton, Christopher Salerno of Taylor, Stephen Salerno and wife Sheila of Old Forge and Eric Salerno and wife Lisa of Clarks Summit; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; siblings, Daniel Kalson and wife Kathy of Shelton, CT., and Carol Carroll of Ansonia, CT.; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Joseph Kalson and Theresa Marrone, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart whose collective care throughout her illness will always be appreciated.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 2-5:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Agnes’ name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18702.
