Jean Kalkus (Kalkoski), age 97, a resident of Hewitt Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shelton, CT., and formerly of Taylor, passed away Sunday morning. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bart J. Kalkus, on May 28, 1991.
Born in Taylor on November 10, 1917, daughter of the late John, Sr. and Mary Ciesecki Shulhan, Jean retired after working 15 years as an inspector for Schick USA. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of the former St. Michael’s Church in Old Forge. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Carol Hunter of Derby, CT.; two grandchildren, Terry Hunter Staffieri and Debbie Hunter; five great grandchildren, Kaylee Staffieri, Mark Estwan, Amanda Estwan, John Hunter and Anna Hunter; and nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Mary Ann Kalkus; a grandson, Todd Hunter; and siblings, Anna Shulhan, Helen Chichilla, Peter, Frank, Edward and John Shulhan, Jr., also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 10:30AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects between 9:30-10:30AM at the funeral home.
