Vida Lopez-Hornby, age 94, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday under the care of Geisinger Community Medical Center’s VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Henry Hornby, on July 4, 2004.
A private duty nurse specializing in nutrition, Vida served as a personal nurse to the President of CHASE Manhattan Bank for over twenty years. Raised in Belize, she was active within both the BLISS Institute for Performing Arts and the Belize United Democratic Party (UDP). Also working for the Embassy of Belize, she held a treasured memory of having tea with Queen Elizabeth II during her years involved with politics. Upon retirement, she specialized in designing cakes, especially those for weddings and birthdays. Passing away peacefully surrounded by family, she will be forever missed.
She is survived by four daughters, Karla Ryland of London, England, Lucella Sherwood and Loretta Sergenton, both of Long Island, New York, and Lisa Lopez-Hornby, whom she resided with; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Children, Gregory and Jennifer; three brothers and six sisters, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staff of G.C.M.C.’s VNA Hospice, including all doctors and nurses, for the tremendous treatment both Vida and her family received during her stay.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at noon in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 11:00AM until services.
