Marian Francis Ellen Tallo, age 86, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Saturday morning at Holy Family Residence, where she had resided.
Born on December 18, 1928, daughter of the late Nicholas and Mildred Hayes Tallo, Marian graduated from the former St. Patrick’s High School in 1946 and St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1949 before earning her Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing in 1964 from College Misericordia. From 1953 to 1969, she was a Sister of Mercy, Dallas Province. She retired in 1993 as a Positive Patient Representative for Mercy Hospital in Scranton. Her nursing career spanned 47 years, and coincided with her sixteen years as a Sister of Mercy, her greatest accomplishment. Eleven of those working years were spent at Mercy Hospital in Johnstown.
She had a great love for animals, especially her three beloved dogs, Rachel, Ashley and Mr. Connor. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Lorayne Tallo of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
Her brother, Gerald Tallo, preceded her in death on August 7th.
A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by Msgr. David Tressler will be held on Wednesday at 10:30AM in the Holy Family Residence Chapel, 2500 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 10:00AM until Mass at the residence. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marian’s name to either Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., 18411, or to St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street, Scranton, 18504.
