Charles S. Sweeder, Sr., age 87, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Thursday afternoon at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle. He is survived by his beloved wife, Adele Beviglia Sweeder. Wed on June 21, 1952, the couple celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Born on February 17, 1928, and son of the late Stanley, Sr., and Margaret Neishman Sweeder, he was educated at Old Forge High School. A carpenter in his younger years, he retired from Owens-Illinois after 20 years of service in the maintenance department. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be dearly missed.
He is also survived by his son, Chuck Sweeder and wife Paige of Carlisle; his granddaughters, Logan and Devon Sweeder; his sister, Margaret Saslo and husband Joseph of Peckville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother, Stanley Sweeder, Jr., and a sister, Dorothy Elko, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 9:30AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 3-6:00PM at the funeral home. With gratitude for three years of excellent care, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ name to Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, 1000 West South Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
