Maury Kavulich, age 53, a lifelong resident of Scranton , passed away Sunday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton after enduring a courageous battle with Cancer.
Born on April 25, 1962, daughter of Jane Boyd Kavulich of Scranton and the late Michael Kavulich, Maury attended West Scranton High School before graduating with Cum Laude distinction from Marywood College with a Degree in Psychology. Prior to college, she became a well-known waitress at Cooper’s Seafood House in Scranton , and prior to her illness, served at Olive Garden, Dickson City .
Maury loved the arts, always enjoying museum visits, and she had a great love for animals. This beautiful soul adored and lived for her nieces and nephews, and took special care in their upbringing. She was their teacher, friend, nurse, playmate, and confidant. She took great care in teaching them to succeed to the best of their abilities and to always show compassion to others. But most of all, she was their hero. Deeply loved by her family and dear friends, she will be surely missed.
Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Parish, West Scranton .
She is also survived by her siblings, Michael Kavulich and wife Beverly, Paul Kavulich and wife Dawn, Cheryl Van Fleet and husband Gary and Robert Kavulich, all of Scranton ; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Her godson and nephew, Justin Kavulich, also preceded her in death.
Maury’s family wishes to acknowledge the entire staff of Regional Hospital ‘s Intensive Care Unit, as well as Drs. Joseph Leo, Jr. and Martin Hyzinski for their tremendous care throughout the years, and especially the compassionate care given by Lily and Doris.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Thursday at 10:00AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1605 Oram Street in West Scranton. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery .
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maury’s name to the Community Intervention Center , 537 Wyoming Avenue , Scranton , PA 18509 , or the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., 18411.
