Alethea Morris, age 92, of Avoca, died Thursday morning at Riverside Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Morris, on August 11, 1995.
Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on December 18, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Harry G. and Sophia Mathis Sears. She retired as a den mother at Marywood College in Scranton. A longtime member of the Nebo Congregational Church of Christ in Old Forge, Alethea was a talented musician, having served as choir director while playing the organ and piano for several local churches. She will be dearly missed by those who loved her.
She is survived by her guardian and “adopted son”, Joseph Strelecki and wife Patty of Avoca; three sons, Thomas, Howard and Jack Morris, all of Scranton; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank the entire staff of Riverside Center, along with both Drs. Julie Speicher and Kathryn Sallavanti, for the exceptional care given to Alethea through her illness.
Private blessing services are scheduled for Tuesday with interment at Milwaukee Cemetery.
