William Reap, age 74, of Taylor, and formerly of Scranton, passed away Sunday in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore. Survived by his beloved wife, Clare Murphy Reap, the couple were wed on May 27, 1961, and celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton on May 22, 1941, and son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Petry Reap, William attended West Scranton High School before joining the U.S. Army Reserves. For 33 years prior to his retirement, he worked as a dock loader for Supermarket Services. An avid bowler, he played in several South Side Lanes’ leagues, including the Thursday No-Tap and New York Daily News Mixed. A sports fanatic, he loved New York Mets baseball and New York Giants and P.S.U. Nittany Lions football. An adored husband, father, brother and grandfather, he will be forever missed.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Ann’s Basilica Parish in West Scranton.
He is also survived by his children, William Reap, Jr., and wife Marjorie of Taylor, Diane Bridges and companion Ron Sholcosky of Pittston Twp., and Suzanne Sansky and husband Stephen of Olyphant; his sister, Shirley Reap of Scranton; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Jr., Katrina, Matthew, Jason, Phillip, William, III, and Victoria; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Candy.
A sister, Catherine Hutchinson, also preceded him in death.
His family wishes to thank both the staffs of Moses Taylor Hospital as well as Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all the care and compassion shown to them while William was under their care.
Blessing services, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis Landry, C.P., Pastor of St. Ann’s Parish, are scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00PM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 4:00PM until services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William’s name to Griffin Pond animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., 18411.
