Ruth Huggler, age 87, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Thursday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore. She was preceded in death on March 1, 2014, by her beloved husband of 65 years, John (Jack) Huggler.
Born on March 16, 1928, daughter of the late John and Margaret Nicholson Burke, Ruth was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1945. She attended the International Correspondence School before raising her family. She had worked for the Old Forge School District and most recently, worked the counter for the Moosic Cleaners. A faithful member of the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, she served as the longtime Secretary while also belonging to the United Methodist Women’s Society. She also recently joined the Moosic Senior Citizens. A loving mother, grandmother, relative and friend, she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Gleason and husband Garrett, Sr., and Corrine Huggler, all of Old Forge; a sister, Peggy Huggler and husband Jerry; and two grandsons, Brandon and Garrett Gleason, Jr., both of Old Forge. A son, Gordon Huggler, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank Ruth’s niece, Joan Powell, along with the entire staffs of Mountain View Care Center, Scranton Health Care Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the compassion and care given to Ruth and her family throughout her illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Donald B. Perry, Pastor of the Stewart Memorial U.M. Church. Interment will follow in Milwaukee Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 2-5:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to either the Stewart Memorial U.M. Church, 174 N. Main St., Old Forge, Pa., 18518, or, in memory of her adoring cats, to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd., S. Abington Twp., Pa., 18411.
