John “Paduke” Leschinsky, age 71, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Saturday morning at the home of his daughter in Avoca, after an illness.
Born on May 19, 1944, and son of the late Joseph and Anna York Leschinsky, John was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1966. A United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was honorably discharged while earning the National Defense Service Medal. After beginning his career at Brooks Manufacturing, he would retire as an inspector for Schott Glass Company after 30 years of service. He was a member of numerous local Veteran’s organizations including the American Legion Post 306 of Taylor. An Old Forge Blue Devil football and baseball fanatic, he would rarely miss a game. His greatest joy came while spending time with his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Living his life to the fullest while truly loving his life, Paduke passed away peaceully Saturday morning surrounded by his adoring family while having no regrets. He will be dearly missed, for sure.
He is survived by his five children, Cathy Hoover and husband Ronald of Pittston, Josephine Armitage and husband James of Avoca, John Leschinsky of Yatesville, Michael Leschinsky of Clarks Summit and Terry Leschinsky of Pittston; his brother, George Leschinsky and wife Robin of Springbrook Twp.; twelve grandchildren; four great grandsons; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was also preceded in death by his former wife and dear friend, Elverna Minegar Johnson; and brothers, Joseph and Michael Leschinsky.
His family wishes to thank the second floor staff of Moses Taylor Hospital for the amazing care given to John during his stay with them.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin with the AMVETS Honor Guard on Wednesday at 9:45AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with 10:30AM Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 140 Church Street in Old Forge, with services by Rev. John Cigan. Interment, St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery, Old Forge.
Parastas will be conducted on Tuesday at 6:30PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4:00PM until services.
