Rena Nardelli Salerno, 93, a resident of Wesley Village, Jenkins Twp., and formerly of Old Forge, died early Monday morning. She was preceded in death on January 17, 2008, by her beloved husband of 63 years, Dominick Salerno.
Born in Old Forge on June 3, 1921, daughter of the late Sebastiano and Guiseppina Vispi Nardelli, Rena attended Old Forge High School. Prior to her retirement, she was a seamstress in the local garment industry. A lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, in Old Forge, she was also an extraordinary cook. An adoring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be forever missed by those dear to her.
She is survived by her children: her son, Anthony L. Salerno and wife, Jo-Anne of Dallas; and her daughter, Donna M. Salerno of Plains and companion, Robert Stella of Laflin; two grandchildren, Christopher Salerno and girlfriend, Melissa Brun, Devon, Pa.; and Anthony Salerno and wife, Jodi, Newport Beach, Calif.; two great-grandsons, Michael and Matthew Salerno; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Anthony Nardelli; and sisters, Tina Ferretti, Anna Abbott and Dora Giovannini.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. John Diakiw, Dr. James Tricarico and the entire staff of Wesley Village for their compassionate and attentive care throughout the years.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 W. Grace St., Old Forge, to be celebrated by the Rev. August A. Ricciardi, pastor. Interment will follow in Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects Saturday between 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made in Rena’s name to the Wesley Village Memorial Fund, 209 Roberts Road, Jenkins Twp., PA 18640.
