Pauline Doohaluk, age 95, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Monday at Riverside Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Taylor. She was preceded in death on January 29, 2002, by her beloved husband of 54 years, Alexander Doohaluk.
Born on March 16, 1920, Pauline was the daughter of the late John and Agnes Lehman Chickey. An active member of the former St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge, now Prince of Peace Parish, she served as President of the Church’s Altar and Rosary Society. She often quilted for the church and also worked both church and fire company picnics. Her favorite pastime was crocheting. A loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be forever missed by all of those dear to her.
She is survived by her children, Janet Nagley and husband Steven of Old Forge and Ronald Doohaluk and wife Margaret Ann of Galveston, Texas; her sisters, Eleanor Benedetti and husband William of Dallas and Theresa Haschak of MA. and a brother Charles of N.J.; six grandchildren, Kerri Balogh, Kelly Myers, Amy Whitlow, Ronald Doohaluk, Stacy Lugin and Erin Nagley; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Leo, Chester and John Chickey; sisters, Helen Augustitus and Rose Slucinsky; and her first husband, Leo Rychleski, killed in battle on D-Day and buried in Normandy, France.
Her family wishes to acknowledge the staffs of both Riverside Nursing and Compassionate Care Hospice for their collective kindness and care.
Blessing services, to be conducted by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor of Prince of Peace Parish, are scheduled for Friday at noon in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 10-12:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pauline’s memory to Meals on Wheels, Lackawanna County, 541 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, 18509.
