Kathleen (Kay) Walsh, age 92, passed away peacefully at the Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy Family Residence on April 28th. She lived a life of faith, hope and love and was surrounded in prayer, and love of the Little Sisters, their staff, other residents and her family. Born March 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Kathleen May Crowley and Andrew E. Crowley.
She worked hard all her life as a loving, caring, understanding and compassionate mother. She devoted many hours to her faith in prayer and daily Mass. She was steadfast in her love of family. She was never tiring in her giving to others. She would cook, clean, iron, sew, and console both family and friends. She worked tirelessly on sending birthday or holiday cards to her many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her sewing skills were remarkable. She sewed as well as any trained seamstress. These were but a few of her ways of showing love and care for others. She would make meals, pies, cakes and even fudge to have around just in case anyone would stop in for a visit. When her doorbell rang, she would greet the visitor then almost immediately offer them to sit and she would proceed to wait on them as if they had stopped at the local cafe`.
Kay loved her family and her faith. She entered Holy Family Residence in October 2013. Her grandmother, who practically raised her inspired in her a love for the Little Sisters. Now she was able to experience the Little Sisters first hand, 24 hours a day. She was able to attend Mass at the Chapel daily and feel the closeness of the Sisters and Priests everyday. She was forever true to her faith and family.
She was married to the late John F. Walsh on August 10, 1943. They had five loving and devoted children.
She is survived by and deeply loved by her son, John F. Walsh and wife Joyce of Clarks Summit, her daughter, Margaret Walsh of Scranton and companion Jim Orlando, her daughter, Mary DePietro of Scranton, her son, Patrick Walsh and wife Diane of Clarks Summit, and her son Kevin Walsh of Scranton; her sister, Ann Reboulet of Rochester, New York; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 56 nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Crowley; and her sisters, Mary Conway and Jane Thompson.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. Darlene Dunay for the exceptional care she gave to Kay throughout the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday at 1:00PM at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in Scranton. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
