Mary Spindler Lenceski Lavelle, age 65, of Old Forge, passed away Thursday morning at home. She is survived by her loving husband, George Lavelle, with who she would have celebrated an 18th anniversary with on May 8th.
Born in Dunmore on September 6, 1949, daughter of the late Elizabeth Padula Cole and Joseph Spindler, Mary attended West Scranton High School. Living with her family in Endicott, New York, she worked as a licensed beautician. Upon the passing of her first husband, Chester Lenceski, Jr., she moved back home with her children. Also a self-employed licensed beautician in Pennsylvania, she worked for both Scranton’s Glider Diner and also Mary’s Diner, where she served as both owner and operator. A loving wife, mother and sister, she was an adoring grandmother to her five grandchildren. Deeply loved by all who knew her, she will dearly missed.
She is also survived by her two sons, Chester Lenceski, III, and wife Kristine and Joseph Lenceski and wife Renee, all of Old Forge; her brothers, Patrick Spindler, Joseph Spindler and Roy Cole and wife Amy, all of Scranton; her five grandchildren, Chester, IV, Matthew, Liliana, Abigail and Lyla Lenceski; and many nieces and nephews.
Aside from her parents and first husband, a son, James Joseph Lenceski, and brothers, Frank Cole and Richard Spindler also preceded her in death.
Services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 10:00AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 1403 Jackson Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Martin Boylan, Pastor. Interment will follow at Dunmore Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 2-5:00PM at the funeral home.
