Amy Mbye, age 54, a resident of Wilkes Barre, passed away Wednesday morning at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton after an enduring and difficult year of critical hospitalization. Prior to her debilitating illness, Amy earned her degree from the University of Connecticut and was a beloved member of the Wilkes University faculty in the office of Engineering and Physics. Having always been a strong proponent of cultural awareness and diversity, she was often recognized by the school such as multi-cultural diversity accolades and awards. Amy touched the lives of several students, many of whom would say they saw her as a mother figure on campus. She was an adored and cherished mother to her only daughter, P. Heidi, who stayed by her side until the very day of her passing. Amy was an immensely esteemed sister to Baboucar and like so to a great deal of people in the community as well. Praise God that she was blessed with an unbreakable faith; Ms. Mbye was truly loved because of her generous and honest nature. She will always be held dearly to the hearts of students, colleagues, family, and friends.
She was preceded (in death) by her mother, Ya Adam Joof.
Muslim Janazah prayers were conducted on Friday at 1:30PM at Masjid Al-Noor, 999 Scott Street, Wilkes Barre. Interment will be in Banjul Cemetery, Banjul, The Gambia, on Thursday, April 9th.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
