Dorothy Smicherko, age 89, of Old Forge, passed away Monday morning under the care of the Commonwealth Hospice Inpatient Unit of Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Smicherko, on November 3, 1998.
Born in Scranton on October 9, 1925, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Anthony and Stella Domkowski Mozeleski. Of strong Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, and most of all, spending time with those she loved at family gatherings. On Monday morning, angels carried Dorothy, the matriarch of her family, to join all of her loved ones who preceded before her in heaven. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her adoring children, daughters Tina Przywara and husband Joe of Old Forge, Margie Gilroy and husband Joe of Factoryville and Rose Marie Cognetti and husband Russ of Old Forge, and sons, Frank Smicherko and wife Diane of Taylor, Jerry Smicherko and wife Theresa of Avoca, Jim Smicherko and wife Tammy of Edwardsville and Dave Smicherko and wife Jill of Winter Garden, Florida; a son-in-law, Jack Williams of Old Forge; 23 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Frances Williams, on March 21st; and 13 siblings.
Her family would like to acknowledge the entire nursing staffs of both Commonwealth Hospice and Moses Taylor Hospital for the tremendous care given to Dorothy while under their care.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 7th, at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Avenue Scranton, Pennsylvania, 18509.
