Joan E. Davis, age 83, formerly of the Greenwood section of Moosic, passed away Sunday morning at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor, where she was a two-year resident. She was preceded in death in 1998 by her husband, Joseph Davis. Born in Scranton on July 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Ann Matway Evans. A graduate of the former Scranton Technical high School, Class of 1949, Joan retired as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company, where she also served as union steward. She was a longtime member of Embury United Methodist Church in Scranton. A member of the Embury Church’s Women’s Club, she was also, prior to her illness, an active member of the Bell Telephone Pioneer Club. Dearly loved by her family, she will be forever missed.
She is survived by her sister, Florence Theobald of Old Forge; and many nieces and nephews including Mark, Scot, Keith and Craig Felkowski. Her brother, Harry Evans, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank both the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice as well as the 2nd floor staff of Riverside Nursing Center for the care taken of Joan throughout her stay.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 10:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Howard Woodruff, Pastor of the Elm Park Church in Scranton. Interment will follow at Dunmore Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
