Obituaries

Nancy C. Dommes, age 76, of Pittston Twp., passed away Monday at Regional Hospital of Scranton, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Louis J. “Babe” Dommes, on May 19, 1996.
Born in Moosic on December 7, 1938, daughter of the late Luxley and Jane Simpson VanLouvender, Nancy was a graduate of the former Moosic High School, Class of 1957. Prior to retirement, she worked as a waitress for the former Casa Mia’s, and more recent Celestino’s, Restaurant of Dupont.
An avid bingo player who also enjoyed cards, crosswords and game shows, her greatest joy in life came while spending time with her great granddaughter. Loved by everyone who knew her, she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her four children, Jayne Potter and husband Kevin, with whom she resided, Louis Dommes and wife Dawn of Scranton, Mark Dommes and wife Christine of Moosic and James Dommes and wife Lisa of Scranton; her four siblings, Alfred VanLouvender and wife Diane of Moosic, Alice Moore of Gouldsboro, Lorraine VanLouvender of Scranton and Linda Simon and husband Jerry of Taylor; ten grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Robert VanLouvender, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to acknowledge the helpful nurses, doctors and staff of Regional Hospital, especially Darlene Benjamin, CRNP, along with Dr. Martin Moran, for the outstanding care collectively given to Nancy throughout her illness.
Funeral services by Rev. David O’Brien, Pastor of the Moosic Assembly of God Church, are scheduled for Friday at 10:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow at Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday between 4-7:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nancy’s name to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 969 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA., 18411.
