Charlotte “Shirley” Ostrowski Czaja, age 72, of Scott Twp., passed away Saturday morning under the care of the V.N.A. Hospice Inpatient Unit of Geisinger C.M.C., Scranton. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert M. Czaja. Wed on Valentine’s Day, 1964, the couple celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Born in Avoca on September 17, 1942, daughter of the late Louis, Sr., and Mary Hornick Ostrowski, Charlotte was educated in Avoca Schools. A member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, she retired from Falls Dress Factory as a head seamstress after working over 30 years in the local garment industry. She was a passionate NASCAR fan, and will be dearly missed by those who loved her.
She is survived by her loving son, Robert A. Czaja and wife Celeste of Scranton; siblings, Chester Ostrowski and wife Annmarie of Spring Brook Twp., Eugene Ostrowski and wife Kathy of Duryea, Jean Stelma, Theresa Tripus and Dolores Policare, all of Avoca; and many nieces and nephews.
Brothers, Edward, Joseph, Frank, Theodore (Teddy), Louis, Jr., Raymond and Norman also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staff of Geisinger C.M.C., especially V.N.A. Hospice, for the tremendous care given to Charlotte throughout her illness.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial St. Lucy’s Roman Catholic Church, 949 Scranton Street, West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Sam J. Ferretti, Pastor. Entombment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 6-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte’s name to either Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington, Pa., 18411, or to the Visiting Nurses’ Association, 301 Delware Avenue, Olyphant, 18447.
