Dorothy A. Rubel Legg Leyshon, 75, a longtime resident of the Pittston area, died Friday at Timber Ridge Health Care Center. She was the widow of the late Edward Leyshon, who died July 3, 2012. The couple had been together for 43 years.
Born on July 2, 1939 in Moosic, she was the daughter of the late John Francis and Helen Myterotrsky Rubel. Dorothy graduate in 1957 from Moosic High School where she was a cheerleader. She worked for Suburban Publisher, Wilkes-Barre Vo-Tech, and along with her husband, owned Sparkle Wash of Lackawanna County. Dorothy was a member of the Dupont V.F.W. Auxiliary and St. Mary’s Church, Queen of the Apostle Parish, Avoca.
Dorothy loved to cheer on her favorite athletes, her beloved grandchildren. She was involved with the Plains Yankees and Coughlin Football booster clubs. An Avid gardener and cook, she loved creating recipes and submitting them to the local publications and public broadcasting programs. The highlight of her year was attending the New Year’s Eve Party at Gus Genetti’s. She will be forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Filippini and husband Joseph of Plains, who took such wonderful care of her the last two years, Debra Cross and husband Tracy of Warrior Run, Helen Hoskins of New Albany, Linda Dunleavy and husband James of Scranton, and Joann Brown and husband Edward of Ashley; grandchildren, Joseph and John Filippini; Michael and John Yodsnukis; Helen Minnick; Mike Hoskins; Stephanie Thrift; Shannon and Jimmy Dunleavy; Edward Brown; and Larrissa Beavers; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her grandson, Eddie Hoskins, and brothers, Richard, Pookie, and John Rubel preceded her in death.
The funeral service is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with Rev. Dennis Gray, Chaplain of Compassionate Care Hospice, officiating.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 4 – 7 PM in the funeral home.
