John J. “Jack” Mason, of Blakely, and formerly of New Jersey, died unexpectedly Saturday in the Geisinger Community Medical Center ER. His wife of 26 years is the former Diane S. Thomas Vitucci.
Born on August 27, 1942 in Scranton, he was the son of the late John, Jr. and Catherine Price Mason. Educated in Scranton schools, he was a proud Veteran serving in the US Navy. Jack was employed for 36 years by the Somerset-Raritan Valley Sewer Authority, New Jersey, working in the reactor room. He was a member of the Clarks Green Assembly of God Church.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, his family was his life. An avid fan of horse racing and the Seattle Seahawks, Jack was a master of the remote control. Jack could light up a room, and was always well equipped with a joke for everyone who would lend an ear to him. He was not afraid to be himself, and making others smile was his favorite past time. His true enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his beloved children, John Mason and Shari Ann Mason, both of Virginia, Karyn Lee Mason of Scranton, Michele Sledgeski and husband John of Duryea, Lisa Hewett and husband Kenneth of Scott Twp., Kimberly Lawrence of Waretown, New Jersey, Frank Vitucci and wife Sue of Throop, Louis Vitucci, Jr., and wife Christine of Jermyn; two sisters, Jeanette Seymour and Carol Dore of Dalton; 18 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and nieces and nephews
His sister, Cathy DeAndrea, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at 6:00 PM in the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton to be conducted by Rev. Daniel Miller, pastor of Clarks Green Assembly of God Church.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service in the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be made to the Keystone Rescue Mission Alliance, PO Box 470, Scranton, PA 18501-0470.
