Wasil (Wash) Polohovich, age 90, a resident of Gino Merli Veteran’s Center in Scranton and formerly of Wilkes Barre, passed away Tuesday at Moses Taylor Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Polohovich, in 1988.
Born in Nesquehoning on August 26, 1924 and son of the late Wacsh and Mary Smerokanech Polohovitch, Wash was a graduate of Nesquehoning High School, Class of 1941, where he was a standout football player. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran of WWII, having served on the legendary USS Minnesota battleship. He worked as a supervisory engineer for Bechtal between 1958 until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed his job, as it led him to travel and live in many places throughout the country. He was also a 30 year member of the Elks Lodge. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his dearest friend and caregiver, Irene Wotring; two step sons, George Eisenhuth and wife Jane and Rev. David Eisenhuth; a sister, Helen; two step grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
Numerous siblings also preceded him in death.
A graveside blessing service is set for Wasil (Wash) Polohovich, age 90 and a resident of Gino Merli Veterans’ Center in Scranton, who died on Tuesday at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton.
Blessing services, by the Rev. Leo Maletz, Pastor of St. Matthew the Evangelist Church in Minersville, will be on Monday at 11:00AM in Mount Peace Cemetery, Minersville. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main Street in Old Forge.
