Philomena Lutian, age 88, of Moosic, passed away early Saturday morning under the care of the V.N.A. Hospice Inpatient Unit, Geisinger C.M.C., Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Andrew Lutian, Sr., on July 28, 2001.
Born, raised and educated in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Proca Cucoa Stanco. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Spotless Cleaners in Dunmore. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Minooka section of Scranton, and of St. Mary of Czestochowa, before its closure. Very active throughout her life, she was a former member of both the Centennial Committee of Dunmore Borough and the Women’s Society of St. Mary’s Church, while living in Gary, West Virginia, and her favorite pastime came spending time at the South Scranton Senior Center. She touched the lives of many and will be forever missed by all of those who loved her.
She is survived by her three children, John Andrew Lutian, Jr., and wife Carolin and Joseph Frank Lutian and wife Michaelina, all of Scranton, and Veronica Marie Johns and husband David, Jr., with whom she resided; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Pasquale, Vito, James, Michael, August, Victor and infant Frankie Stanco; sisters, Josephine Draper, Catherine Smith and Rose Ulacco; and a great grandson, Zachary Buchinski.
Her family wishes to thank both Dr. Salvatore Lawrence, along with the entire staff of V.N.A., for the tremendous care given to Philomena.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, Pastor. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
