Thomas John Cook, Jr., 44, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday.
Born in Scranton on September 7, 1970, and the first son of Thomas, Sr., and Barbara Bestrycki Cook of Scranton, he was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1988.
Tommy was a very compassionate and giving individual who cared deeply for his family and friends. His unconditional devotion and love toward his niece Peyton and nephews Nathan, Tyson, and Norman was his greatest joy in life. He followed them through school concerts, plays, and all their sporting events to always share how proud he was of them.
Tommy had a very giving heart and loved to see the happiness in others by never forgetting a holiday, birthday or anniversary which he kept in his daily planner. He would check daily on the well-being of all around him to offer help whenever needed and assure others were alright. He was an animal lover, an avid Minnesota Vikings football fan, and loved playing video games with the “kids”. Tommy will be greatly missed by all who have had the privilege to meet and know him.
He leaves a legacy behind. A hero in life by helping anyone in need, he continues to be a hero in death by giving the gift of life through organ donation
Along with his parents, he is survived by brothers, Jim and wife Tina Anderline Cook and their children Peyton and Tyson, and David and wife Ann Makarowicz Cook and their children Nathan and Norman; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled on Friday at 9:30AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Stephen Krawontka, Associate Pastor. Private interment, Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton. All of those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 4-7:00PM at the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Street in Scranton.
