Frances M. Occhipinti, age 95, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Friday evening at home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Occhipinti, on September 15, 1974.
Born on March 9, 1919, daughter of the late Frank and Kathryn Trygar Sucheski, Frances was educated in Old Forge Schools before graduating from Madame Fenwick Cultural Beauty School in Scranton. A self-employed beautician, she worked for several years before raising her loving family. Prior to its closure, she was an active member and daily mass attendee at St. Michael’s Church in Old Forge. A devout Roman Catholic who prayed often to St. Ann, she never missed a solemn Novena at St. Ann’s Basilica. She was also an excellent baker and cook.
Frances will be forever remembered as a caregiver – to family, friends, and even strangers – leaving behind a selfless legacy of caring and love.
She is survived by her four children, her daughters, Mary Ann Sobuto and husband John, Jr., and Karen Occhipinti, all of Old Forge, and her sons, Michael Occhipinti and wife Karen of Moscow, and John Occhipinti of Dickson City; seven adoring grandchildren, Michelle Koelsch and husband Jason of Moscow, Dr. John Sobuto, III and wife Dr. Amber of Havertown, Ashley Occhipinti and fiance David Kaminski of Moscow, John Michael, Kayla and Kelsey Occhipinti, all of Dickson City, and Gabriella Occhipinti of Moscow; a great granddaughter, Kennedy Koelsch; and many nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank all of Frances’ caregivers, especially the staff of Compassionate In Home Personal Care, for all the tremendous care given to her throughout the years.
Eight siblings, Mary Kwiatkowski, Wanda Matechak, Sophie Davis, Stella Sucheski, Andrew, John, Joseph and Peter Sucheski, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street in Old Forge. Interment will follow in Holy Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-7PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frances’ name to St. Ann’s Basilica, 1233 St. Ann Street in Scranton, pa., 18504.
