Obituaries

Barbara Jean Summa, age 71, of Dunmore, suddenly passed away Wednesday evening at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death on June 7, 2000, by her beloved husband Theodore James Summa, Sr.
Born in Scranton on September 5, 1943, daughter of the late Frederick and Helen Jennings Schmitt, Barbara was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1961. Her life was devoted to her children and many others, and she cherished the everlasting bond she created with each.
She is survived by her children, Timothy Summa and wife Gloria of Dunmore, Lisa Woodruff and husband Darrin of Harding, Melissa Sherman and husband David, Jr., of Dunmore, Jennifer Hertwig and husband Karl of Emmaus, Kimberly Rasmus of Shavertown, Denise Summa of Allentown and Mary Summa of Scranton; her siblings, Robert Burch, Frederick Schmitt, Jr. and wife Maryann, William Schmitt and wife Gloria, Dawn Sharer and Diane Summa and husband Paul; her ten adored grandchildren, with a grandson on his way; many nieces and nephews; and her loving buddy, her Sheltie, “Dakota.
She was also preceded in death by her sons, Theodore, Jr. and John Summa; her brothers, Glenn Burch, Chester Schmitt and Girard Schmitt; and her sisters, Shirley VanKuren, Elizabeth Schaffer and Mary Jane Jones.
Blessing services are scheduled for Saturday at 5:00PM in the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 2:00PM until services. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
