Robert P. Mack, age 90, of Duryea, passed away Friday morning at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scranton. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly E. Felts Mack. Wed on June 12, 1959, the couple would have celebrated their 56th anniversary this year.
Born in the Hyde Park section of Scranton on January 12, 1924, Robert was the son of the late Martin and Catherine Tunney Mack. After graduating from the former Scranton Central High School, he attended the University of Scranton. A United States Army Veteran of both WWII and the Korean War, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the WWII Victory Medal for his outstanding service to his country. A postal clerk for the United States Postal Service, he last worked at the Old Forge branch, prior to his retirement. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed baseball and football and bowled in various local leagues. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 920, Lincoln Heights. He also enjoyed attending services at the Brick United Methodist Church with his wife. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, John Mack, Ann Davies and Helen Mack also preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 11:00AM at St. Mary’s Church at Queen of the Apostle’s Parish, 715 Hawthorne Street, Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Interment with full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
