Daniel J. Davis, age 82, of West Scranton, died suddenly Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (Peggy) Davis. Wed on May 17, 1958, the couple were married for 56 years.
Born in Scranton on October 8, 1932, son of the late Daniel and Catherine Haggerty Davis, Daniel was a graduate of the former Holy Rosary High School. He furthered his education at both Lackawanna Business College and the University of Scranton. After attending the American Institute of Banking, he began a career spanning 35 years as a bank teller at Northeastern National Bank, now PNC Bank in Scranton. A member of the United States Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict, he served as a regiment squad leader while earning the National Defense and United Nation Service Medals along with the Korean Service Ribbon for his honorable service.
A devoted Roman Catholic, he was an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish, since 1958, having been a member of the church choir and the Holy Name Society and having served as a collection counter during the year and at the annual Parish summer picnics. He also loved to recite the Rosary daily. In his youth, he was an excellent golfer, having won the inaugural Caddies’ Championship at the Scranton Country Club. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he will be forever missed by all of those who deeply loved him, but he will be remembered in all our hearts. .
He is survived by four loving children, three daughters, Donna and Sherryann Davis, both at home, and Laureen Spindler and husband Les of Scranton, one son, Dain Davis and wife Ann Marie of Towson, Maryland; four adoring grandchildren, Sherri Frankowski, at home, Eric Davis of Richmond, Virginia, and Brianna and Brooke Spindler, both of Scranton; a devoted brother, Robert Davis of Montdale; a loving sister, Anne Bender and husband Jack of New Columbia.

A brother, Howard Davis, also preceded him in death, as well as deceased brother-in-laws: John Hawley, Paul Judge, Robert and William Healey, deceased sister-in-laws: Ann Hawley, Elaine and Claire Davis and Barbara Healey. Also surviving are his brother-in-law Paul Healey and sister-in-laws: Marilyn Judge, Nancy and Judia Healey, and nephews, nieces and cousins. His family would like to express their gratitude to Doctors Eric Smith, and Vincent Bianca, his previous compassionate doctor for many years, also Doctors:Ira Kohn, David Fitzpatrick, and Anthony Sauter, Geisinger- CMC Emergency Room, for the collective care given to Daniel.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Saturday at 9:00AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street, Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Martin M. Boylan, Pastor. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Daniel’s name to either St. Patrick’s Church Parish or St. Patrick’s Food Pantry, both care of 1403 Jackson Street in Scranton, 18504.
