Robert R. Shivock, age 81, a lifelong resident of North Scranton, died Saturday morning under the care of the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He is survived by his wife, Linda Crawn Shivock. The couple celebrated a 16th wedding anniversary on August 18th. His former wife of 38 years, Beverly Lewis Shivock, preceded him in death on April 25, 1995.
Born on July 21, 1933, son of the late Simon and Madaline Beck Shivock, Robert was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1950. After retiring from a career in the local garment industry, he was last employed in the shipping department for Boscovs. An avid sports fan, he rooted for Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lion football. He enjoyed bowling and roller skating in his younger years, but his favorite pastime came while fishing alongside his lifelong best friend, Gary Bell. Robert will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Linda McCarthy and husband Tom of Lancaster, Robert S. Shivock and wife Nicole of Clarks Summit, and Valerie Sherman and husband George of Scranton; a step-daughter, Jacqueline Bickley and husband Cliff of Branchville, New Jersey; four step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved grand dog, Sasha.
His family wishes to thank the entire staff of NROC, Dunmore.
Siblings, Paul Shivock and Ruth Berzanskis, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services to be conducted by Rev. Art Harshman are scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00AM at the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Visiting Nurses Association’s Memorial Fund, 301 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant, PA., 18447, with gratitude for the tremendous care given to Robert during his stay, or the American Cancer Society, 712 South Keyser Avenue, Taylor, PA., 18517.
