Genevieve Pocius, L.P.N. age 84, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, died Tuesday morning under the care of Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital in Scranton.
Born on February 25, 1930, daughter of the late Amelia and John Pocius, Genevieve graduated from West Scranton High School before attending Mercy Hospital’s School of Nursing. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she worked for Scranton’s Mercy Hospital for over 30 years. Upon retirement, she volunteered at the hospital for numerous years. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Church in Scranton. Family-oriented, she adored spending time with her nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death were siblings, John, Edward (Hobbs), Anthony, Charles, Lewis and Amelia Pocius.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday at 9:30AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Church, 1703 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Jose Zepeda, Pastor. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 1-3:00PM and 5-7:00PM at the funeral home.
