Edward (Ted) H. Russell, age 84, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Saturday evening at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor. Born on January 24, 1930, son of the late William and Anastasia Graham Russell, Ted was educated at Old Forge High School before proudly serving his country as an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he served as a drug and alcohol counselor at the V.A. Medical Center in Wilkes Barre. A longtime A.A. mentor, he was proud of his A.A. family and of the many lives he touched. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, 5940 Old Forge Council, and of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church. He will be dearly missed by his relatives and friends.
He is survived by nieces and a nephew, Ruth Stassi and husband Louis of Old Forge, Joan Sawicki of Folsom, Rose Petlikowski and husband Rich of Aston, Pat DeLorme and husband Ray of Newtown, C.T., and Carl Russell of Trumbull, C.T.; and great nieces and a great nephew, Jill Sawicki, Jackie Holbert and John Stassi.
Siblings, William Russell, Carl Russell, Dorothy Russell, Janet Russell and Annabel Augustitus, also preceded him in death.
His family wishes to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli for the years of care he gave to Ted.
Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 10:30AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with an 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence O’Toole RC Church, 620 South Main Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment with military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 9-10:30AM at the funeral home.
