The Lord called Gladys home on November 11, 2014 surrounded by her family, at home as she had wished. She is once again with her soul mate, William A. Buck who died on April 14, 1988. She has waited so long to be reunited with her prince.
Gladys, 85 years old, was born in Scranton, daughter of the late Benjamin and Harriet Reese. She resided in the same home 76 years. Gladys graduated from West Scranton High School in 1947, and worked as a milliner at Ilsa’s Hats, and for Willard Taylor, Sr. as a receptionist. Her family was her life, and being a homemaker brought her much joy. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, fishing, and playing cards. She was a true lady in every sense of the word.
Gladys was a member of Bethania Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon and served as Treasurer.
Gladys taught each family member about the special meaning of belonging to a religious community. Family history and happenings were shared for all to remember. She never liked to be alone. Whenever someone came home time was always available to share. Also she loved visiting family and friends or just going for a ride in the country. A smile was always on het face and she never lost her wit until the very end.
Gladys is survived by her four children and their spouses: W. Brian Buck and wife Kathleen, Scranton, Cynthia Shook and husband David, Clarks Summit, Barry Buck and wife Cathy, Scranton, and Shari Dikeman and husband Kevin, Clarks Summit, eight grandchildren: Kevin Buck and wife Megan, Kelly Buck Tigue and husband Michael, Casey Buck and fiance Heather Godino, Amy Buck, Alyssa Dikeman, William Shook, Valerie Shook, Isabelle Dikeman, and two great grand children Caroline and Kelsey Buck, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Isabelle Dowse, Jesse Reese, Samuel Reese, David Reese, Catherine Lane, Louise Mallory, and Ruth Kehr.
The family wishes to thank the Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice of NEPA, and her personal home care givers for their love and compassion demonstrated daily.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 10:00AM in the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
