Casimir (Bill) Fila, age 77, of Avoca, died Wednesday at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit of Geisinger C.M.C., Scranton. Born in Avoca on Christmas Day, 1936, son of the late George and Sophie Ostrowsky Fila, Casimir was a graduate of the former Avoca High School. A talented country singer who often sang at local nursing homes, he was also a former member of St. Peter and Paul’s Church. He will be missed by family and friends.
He is survived by siblings, Betty McAndrew and husband Bill of Avoca, and George Fila and wife Dorothy of Elmhurst; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were siblings, James and Eleanor Fila and Irene Tokash.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 9:30AM at Queen of the Apostle’s Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne Street in Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Daniel Yankevich. Interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul’s Parish Cemetery.
His family wishes to thank the entire staff of VNA Hospice for the tremendous care taken of Casimir during his stay with them.
