Mary Ann Sledzinski, age 79, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Tuesday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Michael Sledzinski, Jr., in 1984.
Born in West Scranton on May 16, 1935, daughter of the late John and Beatrice Bienick Pivovarnik, Mary Ann was a graduate of West Scranton High School. For seventeen years prior to her retirement, she worked as a welder for the Trane Company in Dunmore. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Scranton’s Hill Section. An avid gardener, her family also has fond memories of their years volunteering together with their mother for Allied Services. A beloved mother, sister and grandmother, she will forever be missed by all of those who loved her.
She is survived by her children, Michael Sledzinski of Scranton, Ruth O’Neil and husband Tom of Lake Ariel, Janice Muskey and companion Joe Barry of Taylor, Karen Roberts and companion Mike McConnell of Scranton and Judy Kermidas of Scranton; siblings, Joseph Pivovarnik, Helen Panek, Diana Jacobe, Beatrice Burkhart, Barbara Gilbride and Sue Miller; six grandchildren; a great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, John Pivovarnik, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Saturday at 9:15AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at the Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Avenue in Scranton, to be celebrated by Patrick J. McLaughlin. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
