Henry (Joker) Gursky, age 90, a lifelong resident of the Lincoln Heights section of Scranton, died early Friday morning at Scranton Health Care Center where he recently resided with his beloved wife, Agnes Novotka Gursky. Wed on May 25, 1946, the couple were married for 68 years.
Born on January 12, 1924, son of the late Nicholas and Verna Yastremski Gursky, Henry was educated in West Scranton Schools. Formerly working for Chamberlain Manufacturing (General Dynamics) in Scranton, he would retire as a truck driver from PennDOT with over ten years of service. An avid guitar player who was known to sing a tune or two during family events, Henry will leave behind a lasting legacy of possessing tremendous humor and deep love for his family. He will forever be missed.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a longtime member of SS Peter and Paul Church in West Scranton.
He is also survived by three children, Jack Gursky and companion Genine Davis of Taylor, Daniel Gursky and wife Joan of Washington, New Jersey, and Geanine Giglio and husband Ted of Old Forge; siblings, Alfred Gursky of Scranton, and Cecelia Koytek of Duryea; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews,
A daughter-in-law, Peggy Gursky; a granddaughter, Denise Perry, on February 5th, and brothers, Victor and Nicholas Gursky, also preceded him in death.
His family wishes to thank Dr. Robert W. Kaville; the staff of Scranton Health Care Center; and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their collective years of care and support to both Henry and his family.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 8:45AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic church, 1309 West Locust Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Sam J. Ferretti, Pastor. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
