Ann Aversa Calabrese, age 93, formerly of Old Forge, passed away Thursday evening at St. John’s Home in Rochester, New York, where she had recently resided. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Anthony G. Calabrese, on September 20, 2003. Born in Old Forge on December 20, 1920, daughter of the late Anthony and Theresa Gentile Aversa. Ann was a graduate of Old Forge High School. While attending Syracuse University, she worked as a student advisor for the Whitman School of Management prior to her retirement. Throughout her retirement, she continued to support Orangemen Athletics as a die-hard fan. An avid reader, she also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will never be forgotten by those who loved her.
She is survived by her son, Guy Calabrese and wife Donna; her two grandchildren, Nicole and Billy Calabrese; her sister, Rosemary Brown; her two brothers, Gregg and James Aversa; and many nieces and nephews.
Her daughter, Julie Calabrese; and siblings, Ross and Joseph (Beansy) Aversa and Marie Tomasetti, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment will follow at Old Forge Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ann’s name to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
