George Elmer Hurrey, age 71 of Moosic, died Thursday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was preceded in death on October 17, 1992, by his beloved wife, Marian Chapman Hurrey. Born in Hughestown on September 25, 1942, son of the late George and Jessie Winola Corby Hurrey, George was a longtime truck driver for the former Casket Shells Inc. of Eynon, prior to his retirement. A loyal member of the NRA, George was an extensive collector of everything from guns to coins. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be forever missed.
He is survived by his children, Scott Hurrey of Moosic, Caroline Hill and husband Paul of Nicholson, Lisa Lee and husband Dan of Jessup, and Rebecca DeGroot and husband Mark of Tampa, Florida; siblings, Stephen, Elmer, Andrew and Sidney Hurrey, and Corliss McGovern and husband James of Harding; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A daughter, Amy Hurrey; and a brother, John Hurrey, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 7:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Howard Woodruff, Pastor of the Elm Park United Methodist Church in Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 5:00PM until services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to the donor’s choice.
