Archibald (Archie) Johns, age 83, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Tuesday morning at home. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (Peggy) Colburn Johns. Wed on June 29, 1957, the couple would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on Sunday.
Born on September 23, 1930, son of the late Thomas and Jennie Heal Johns, Archie was a graduate of Old Forge High school. He served as a cutting room foreman for over 30 years at Brooks Manufacturing before owning and operating Montage Pants, both of Old Forge. Prior to his retirement, he also worked as a cutter for Allied Services in Scranton. A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Old Forge, he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. A family man with a memorable sense of humor, Archie will be forever missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Carol Kemler and husband Emory of Old Forge; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Clayton Johns; and sisters, Esther Besecker and Mary Alba, also preceded him in death.
His family wishes to sincerely thank the entire staffs of both Geisinger Community Medical Center of Scranton and Heartland Hospice for the collective care given to Archie throughout his recent illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 9:00AM in the First United Methodist Church, 143 Harrison Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. Susan Hardman Zimmerman, Pastor. Entombment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park’s Mausoleum.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 4-7:00pm at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
