Alan Weitz, Sr., age 55, of Moosic, passed away Friday afternoon after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Scranton on May 31, 1958, son of Beatrice Decker Weitz, with whom he resided, and the late Frederick Weitz, Alan attended Riverside Schools before working for over 30 years for the Borough of Moosic, a job he was extremely dedicated to. A longtime member of the Moosic United Methodist Church, he was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed riding his quads, hunting and fishing. A loving son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend to many, he will always be missed.
He is survived by his three children, Alan Weitz, Jr., Crystal Williams and husband Francis, and Marie Weitz, all of Duryea; six siblings, Frederick Michael Weitz and wife Lisa of Pittston, Debbie Williams and husband John of Carbondale, Bruce Weitz and wife Lisa of Old Forge, George Weitz and wife Melissa of Moosic, James Weitz of Moosic, and Stephen Weitz and Heather Green of Wilkes Barre; eight grandchildren, including Gage, Alanna and Layla whom Alan raised; and many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to express their gratitude to the Commonwealth Hospice as well as Dr. Martin Moran who had taken such tremendous care of Alan throughout his illness.
Memorial services, to be conducted by Rev. Donald Williams, are scheduled for Wednesday at 8:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 6:00PM until services. Private interment reserved for family will be on Thursday at Spring Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alan’s name to PNC Bank, care of the Alan Weitz Memorial Fund, 650 Main Street in Avoca, 18641.
