William V. Gleason, Jr., 78, of Moosic died Sunday evening at Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Taylor. His wife of 54 years is the former Sally Garrett.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William V., Sr. and Mae Jenkins Gleason. A 1953 graduate of Taylor High School, Bill was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army. He then graduated from the University of Scranton, and earned his Masters Degree from Penn State University. For over 35 years, Bill taught English at North Pocono High School. He was a 25 year member of Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, Old Forge.
Bill stayed very active after retiring and enjoyed playing golf. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Martin Moran and all the wonderful nurses and staff at Riverside for their kindness and compassion toward Bill during his stay.
Surviving are two sons, Garrett Gleason, and wife, Jackie, Old Forge, and William M. Gleason, and wife, Susan, Clarks Summit; three grandsons, Garrett, Brandon, and William.
His brother, Thomas Gleason, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge, with Rev. Donald Perry, pastor of Stewart Memorial UM Church, officiating. Interment with Military Honors, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Relatives and friend may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5 – 7 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, S. Abington Twp., PA 18411, or to the American Cancer Society, 1101 Hill Street, Jessup, PA 18434.
