Joseph C. Pace, age 80, of Old Forge, passed away Thursday evening under the care of the Commonwealth Hospice Inpatient Unit of Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his loving wife, Agnes Kalson Pace. Wed on July 16, 1983, the couple were married for 30 years.
Born in Pittston on September 5, 1933, son of the late Faust and Fannie Alba Pace, Joseph graduated from the former Pittston Twp. High School, Class of 1951, before joining the United States Army to serve during the Korean War. For many years, he worked for his brother at L.P. Sportswear, before retiring from the Pittston Area School District where he both drove the school bus and worked in the maintenance department. An avid golfer who was always proud of hitting a ‘hole in one’, he was a member of the Emanon Country Club in West Pittston. He was also a member of both the Pittston Orioles and St. Rocco’s Church’s Fides Club. A sports fan, he rooted for both the Penn State Nittany Lions and the New York Yankees.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
He is also survived by two daughters, JoAnn and Cathy; seven step-children, Amy Lawless and husband Paul, with whom he resided, Vincent Salerno and wife Angel of Old Forge, Daniel Salerno and wife Wendy of Taylor, Kevin Salerno of Scranton, Christopher Salerno of Taylor, Stephen Salerno and wife Sheila of Old Forge and Eric Salerno and wife Lisa of Clarks Summit; two siblings, Angie Hopkins and husband John and Louis Pace, all of Pittston; fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A sister, Rose Salvo, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 11:30AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 3-6:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive # 7 Wilkes Barre, 18702, in gratitude for the amazing care in which their staff gave to him during his illness.
