Jean Burnside Jenkins, age 92, of East Stroudsburg and formerly of Moosic, passed away Friday at the Old Orchard Care Center in Easton. She was preceded in death on May 29, 1997, by her beloved husband of 52 years, Willard Jenkins. Born in Avoca on October 28, 1921, daughter of the late John and Jemima Thompson Burnside, Jean graduated from the former Moosic High School before earning her nursing degree from the College of St. Elizabeth. She worked as a private duty child care nurse, and prior to her retirement, she worked as a statistician. A longtime active member of the Pittston Presbyterian Church, Jean served on numerous church committees and also taught Sunday school. She always enjoyed her card club gatherings and an avid baker, she’ll never be forgotten for her canning and baking. A loving mother, grandmother, relative and dear friend, she will be forever missed by those who loved her.
She is survived by her two children, Willard (Jack) Jenkins and wife Robin of Clifton Twp., and Sheila Chelnik and husband David of East Stroudsburg; her sister-in-law, Betty Burnside of Clifton Twp.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, including Bob Wilson Chula Vista, California.
An infant daughter, Margaret Jean Jenkins; and brother, Alex Burnside, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to thank the entire staff of Heartland Hospice for the tremendous care given to Jean while she was ill.
Funeral services to be conducted by Rev. John Craig are scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow at the Langcliffe Cemetery in Avoca.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s name to the Camp Hill Special School, 1784 Fairview Road, Glenmoore, PA, 19343.
