Barbara (June) McLaughlin Duffy, age 70 and of Dunmore, passed away Monday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest in Allentown after a courageous four-year battle with Ovarian Cancer. She is survived by her best friend and beloved husband of 48 years, Robert J. Duffy. The couple were married on May 14, 1966.
Born in Scranton on April 16, 1944, daughter of the late James and June Fallon McLaughlin, June graduated from the former Marywood Seminary School before attending the University of Scranton. She had owned and operated the Ginger Jar gift shop in Dunmore before serving as Office Supervisor for Northeast Imaging Center in Scranton for 14 years prior to her illness. An active Booster Club member for the former Bishop O’Hara High School, June also volunteered much of her time with numerous charities and organizations. She cherished her time spent, especially weekend trips, with her “card group” made up of her lifetime friends. A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and dear friend to many, she’ll be forever missed.
Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore.
She is also survived by her sons, Robert S. Duffy and wife Dina of Harrisburg and Brendan P. Duffy and wife Tricia of Easton; her siblings, Maureen Moylan and husband Peter and Colleen Dodgson and husband Donald, all of Dunmore, and James McLaughlin of Arlington, Virginia; four grandchildren, Connor, Clare, Emma Rose and R.J. Duffy; and many nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staffs of both Lehigh Valley’s Gynecologic Oncology Specialists and 7th floor cancer treatment wing for the exceptional care they had collectively given June throughout the past four years.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday at 8:30AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue in Scranton with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut Street in Dunmore, to be celebrated by Rev. Cyril D. Edwards. Interment will follow at Dunmore Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 4-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in June’s name to the Catherine Boulay Foundation (for Cancer Research), P.O. Box 323, 340 Lehigh Street, Allentown, 18103.
